As most parents can attest, the amount of movie watching you do is inversely proportionate to the amount of kids you have. So, lately, I’ve spent more time reminiscing about some of the good movies that I’ve seen…particularly as part of NetFlix’ Instant Streaming Option.
Before we get into a list of these fine selections, you should know that NetFlix periodically changes up their Instant lineup. Some of the movies that I saw on Instant a few years ago are no longer available. Some were not available for a while but I’m not seeing them on the Instant list again. So, take that into consideration before you write me back and complain that you couldn’t see one that was on this list.
Another caveat, these are movies that I enjoyed – there is a slight chance that your taste in film is not as well-developed as mine and that you will not find any joy in watching the films listed below. That’s your fault. Not mine.
One last thing, these are not in any specific order, either. Even if I tried to quantify a ranking system, I don’t think that I could. Dark cerebral films are very interesting to watch. But, fun indie comedies are way more entertaining. It’s all subject to your current tastes. Anyway:
Transsiberian (2008) A Trans-Siberian train journey from China to Moscow becomes a thrilling chase of deception and murder when an American couple encounters a mysterious pair of fellow travelers.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) A couple undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memories when their relationship turns sour, but it is only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with.
Timecrimes (2007) A man accidentally gets into a time machine and travels back in time nearly an hour. Finding himself will be the first of a series of disasters of unforeseeable consequences.
Delicatessen (1991) Post-apocalyptic surrealist black comedy about the landlord of an apartment building who occasionally prepares a delicacy for his odd tenants.
Memento (2000) A man, suffering from short-term memory loss, uses notes and tattoos to hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife.
The Virgin Spring (1960) After a group of men brutally attack a young woman they unknowingly ask for food and shelter from the girl’s parents, setting the stage for chilling revenge.
